About Us

LastingTree was founded by Tom DuScheid in March of 2013 in Blacksburg, Virginia. A former Product Manager at Rackspace, Tom DuScheid started LastingTree with the goal of using today’s technologies to help families remember and preserve the lives of their lost loved ones. Technology has changed significantly in the last 5 years with cloud computing yet how we preserve the lives of our loved ones remains antiquated to the 1800s.

Families are more distant than ever while the pictures and the memories that they contain are still located in shoeboxes in attics across America, susceptible to the increase of natural disasters that we face. Even digital photos remain disorganized and are at risk of being destroyed forever with hardware crashes.

The stories of our lost loved ones continue to get passed down the old fashioned way, word of mouth. These stories become more rare with each passing generation. How many stories of your great grandfather do you know of? How well do you know him?

It does not have to be this way anymore. Gone should be the days of descendants going to genealogy websites and paying to research the life of one who lived after 1900. The Information Age started decades ago, and now is the cloud computing age.

The fact is that people’s lives today are being played out on the internet (Facebook, etc). And questions now arise about what happens to one’s digital life after they pass away. Some families create Facebook memorial pages, but that comes with many challenges: inappropriate ads, privacy concerns, older family members signing up, a simple interface for sharing stories, and the fact that it is a social network.

The wait is over. The solution now exists to help you with all of these challenges, a gift that is more than a lifetime. Designed to help you bring your family together to remember, celebrate, and grieve if need be.

People bet on the future. At LastingTree.com we bet on the past and the future. After all, the past defines who we are, and what our future will be.
